The Pastures of Heaven by John Steinbeck.
The Pastures of Heaven is an all but idyllic valley in California aside from a single cursed house. A new family moves to town and slicks up the place and to all it seems that the curse was but a myth. But perhaps the family have brought a curse of their own to the Pastures of Heaven.
Pretty much every character and setting in this book is memorable. It’s a dark comedy and you can blast through it.
